Pictures of possible Google Pixel 3 XL prototype with display notch leaks

Pictures of what’s possibly a prototype of the upcoming Google Pixel 3 XL appeared on our very own Google Pixel 2 XL forums. XDA Senior Member meraz9000 posted two photos that show the device with—you know it—a display notch. He hasn’t shared any information on how he obtained these pictures, so we can’t verify their authenticity. They sure do look like they’re from a prototype device, though. Just take a look:

Alleged Google Pixel 3 XL prototype images. Note: the logo on the back is likely to obfuscate the fact that it’s a Google phone.

As you can see in the bootloader information, the device’s code-name is “crosshatch.” Crosshatch is the name of a type of fish, so this lines up with the naming convention of earlier Google Pixel phones. (For reference, the Google Pixel was sailfish, Google Pixel XL was marlin, Google Pixel 2 was walleye, and Google Pixel 2 XL was taimen.) Next, we can see that this particular prototype has 4GBs of RAM and 128GBs of storage. Google likely won’t opt for a ridiculous 8GB RAM model like on the OnePlus 5, OnePlus 5T, OnePlus 6, Razer Phone, or Asus ROG Phone. It’s also unlikely they’ll go beyond 128GBs of storage like Huawei did with the Porsche Design Mate RS. Lastly, we can also see that the device is sporting the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 system-on-chip due to the fact that the baseband version reports “g845.”

These images line up with the earlier reports about the Google Pixel 3 XL having a display notch. They also seem to appear visually similar to the Pixel 3 screen protector leak a few weeks back, which we initially dismissed as the source was dubious. As you can see by comparing the images above with the screen protectors below, the sensors and speaker grill cutout line up. The rumored dual front-facing camera sensors are also seemingly present. Just like the Google Pixel 2 series, the volume and power buttons are on the right-hand side of the device.Google Pixel 3 XL Screen Protector

According to earlier reports, Google will be sourcing OLED panels from LG Display for the two Pixel 3 devices. The leaked images don’t give us information about the display panels, though. Please keep in mind that there is still 4 months left before the device will be released. It may look slightly or even completely different than these images posted on our forum. We’ll be sure to update you guys as soon as we get more information.
