Animal Crossing Pocket Camp Announced for Android & iOS

Nintendo Direct is a video series from the popular gaming company Nintendo where they leverage the internet to speak directly to their fans. This can be in the form of new game announcements, new gameplay clip reveals or even just a Q/A with a member of the company. One was held yesterday for Animal Crossing, and it resulted in the announcement of the company’s new Android and iOS game, Animal Crossing Pocket Camp.

The Animal Crossing series originated back in 2001 in Japan on the Nintendo 64, and was subsequently enhanced and released for the GameCube in America the year after. Since then, the series has had four games in the main series with two spin-off game released, including popular handheld versions for the Nintendo DS and 3DS. At its core, Animal Crossing can be described as a community simulation video game where the human player lives in a virtual village that is inhabited by anthropomorphic animals.

We’ve seen a lot of these village/town simulation games released on mobile over the years but it looks like Nintendo is aiming to claim the throne. Animal Crossing Pocket Camp was announced yesterday during their Nintendo Direct video and is said to be available for free on iOS and Android sometime next month. This game has you filling the role of the camp manager and includes features such as crafting furniture/amenities, going fishing, gathering fruit, collecting bugs,  you can earn rewards by growing friendships, and there are seasonal events to keep the game from becoming stale.

Animal Crossing Pocket Camp will be available for free but it will have in-app purchases for an in-game currency called Leaf Tickets. Nintendo says Leaf Tickets will also be earnable in the game so you aren’t forced to buy them. The game will require an internet connection as well as Android 4.2+ (although they note support for some specific devices may be omitted). The game has nine planned languages including English (US), English (Europe/Australia), French (Canada), French (Europe), Spanish (Latin America), Spanish (Europe), Italian, German, and Japanese and will be launched in the following countries. . .
