Android Oreo is Officially Rolling out to the Sony Xperia XZ Premium

After Android 8.0 Oreo was officially announced back in August of this year, Sony was among the first OEMs to confirm an update to Android Oreo for its line-up. At the time, Sony shared a list of Xperia devices that were part of its Android Oreo update road-map, but it wasn’t clear exactly when the company would begin rolling out this update. That changes today as the company has officially announced on its blog that they have begun rolling out Android Oreo for the Xperia XZ Premium, making it the first OEM to release a stable version of Android Oreo.

Speaking of the update, along side bringing all the usual Android Oreo features such as Picture-in-Picture mode, notification channels, stricter background limits, adaptive icons and more, this update also comes loaded with Sony’s own additions. That includes: Sony’s 3D Creator app, which lets users quickly create 3D models of face, head, food or any object using device camera; Predictive Capture and Autofocus burst features to give users a fast and blur-free camera experience and support for Qualcomm’s aptX HD codec to enable high quality Bluetooth streaming on compatible devices.

Other Xperia devices that are also confirmed to receive an update to Android Oreo include: Sony Xperia XXperia X Performance, Xperia XZ, Xperia X Compact, Xperia XZ Premium, Xperia XZs, Xperia XA1, Xperia XA1 Ultra, Xperia Touch and Xperia XA1 Plus.

Android Oreo update will bring the Xperia XZ Premium —at least on the software front—on par with the likes of Xperia XZ1 and Xperia XZ1 Compact which are the first devices to ship with Android 8.0 Oreo out the box.

As always is the case with OTA roll-outs, this will be a staged roll out so it might take some time before it finally reaches your device. The update has already begun rolling out over-the-air and if you’re carrying an Xperia XZ Premium, you can look forward to receiving this update in the coming weeks.
