Android Oreo has now been pushed to AOSP, so now it’s up for each OEM to announce timelines. And as usual, HTC is among the first big players to announce an official update confirmation for their flagship lineup. Last night, their USA team took to Twitter to announce which devices will receive an Oreo update worldwide. These devices include the HTC U11, the HTC U Ultra and the HTC 10.

While they can’t share a timeline at the moment, they said that more details and additional devices would be announced soon. This sheds hope for phones like the One A9, which launched with Marshmallow yet failed to fulfill previous update promises, but not for older ones like the One M9, or budget devices like those in the Desire line. The rollout could also include devices like the rumored HTC U11 Life and the U Play.
The announcement comes a day after Google released Android Oreo for their Nexus and Pixel phones, making HTC the first OEM to speak publicly about Android Oreo. HTC is known for their update track record, though it also has disappointed fans a few times. Last year, they’ve announced their Android Nougat update for the 10, A9 and M9 right after Google I/O. And they’ve managed to roll it out before the competition, with the HTC 10 update being pushed in just over 90 days. They also did the same for Marshmallow back in 2015 when they’ve launched their A9 mid-ranger with the newest OS out-of-the-box, though again, their promises of long-standing quick support haven’t been truly fulfilled.
We can expect the Android 8.0 update to come to their flagship lineup during Q4, starting with the U11 and arriving to other devices a bit later. Keep in mind that this is just pure speculation based on previous rollouts, though, as updates are always delayed by many different factors, most notably including carrier testing.
