Here’s the minimum requirements to play Fortnite Mobile on Android

Epic Games is gearing up to launch Fortnite Mobile on Android soon, as the company previously announced the game would launch this summer. The game’s launch was delayed because Samsung and Epic Games will reportedly be partnering to launch Fortnite Mobile at the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 unveiling on August 9th. Unfortunately, all rumors point towards Fortnite Mobile on Android launching as a Samsung Galaxy Note 9 exclusive for at least 30 days, and at worst a Samsung Galaxy exclusive for up to an additional 3 months. The exclusivity will allow Samsung Galaxy owners to get free V-Bucks among other in-game items. Once the exclusivity is over, Epic Games will allow supported devices to download and install the game from their website (and not the Google Play Store, surprisingly.) Our list of supported devices is based on data from Epic Games’ own website, but now we have found the minimum requirements that an Android device must meet to play Fortnite Mobile on Android.

XDA Junior Member thesbros, our resident expert data-miner, found an updated minimum hardware specifications list via the entitlement API used to decide whether an Epic account is “entitled” to certain promotions or services. The JSON output from querying this API is what led us to find the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 pre-order promotion which will net users 15,000 V-Bucks. Within this output are also the minimum specifications that an Android device must have to be able to play Fortnite Mobile on Android. The output was last updated just yesterday, August 2nd.

Fortnite Mobile on Android Minimum Requirements

According to the text, here are the minimum requirements needed to run Fortnite Mobile on Android.

  • OS: 64-bit Android 5.0 Lollipop or higher
  • RAM: 3GB or higher
  • GPU Type: Adreno 530 or higher, Mali-G71 MP20, Mali-G72 MP12 or higher

Judging by this specification list, the game is more limited by GPU instead of the CPU. By these GPU requirements, most devices with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 and Exynos 8895 or better should be able to run this mobile game. This means devices like the Samsung Galaxy S7, Google Pixel, OnePlus 3, OnePlus 3T, and equivalent devices should be able to run Fortnite Mobile. In comparison, the list of supported devices we discovered previously from Epic Games’ website listed devices with GPUs such as the Adreno 505 and Mali-T720. It seems that Epic Games may have underestimated how much GPU power it took to run Fortnite on Android when they first made that list months ago. We’ll know what the final specification sheet needed to run the game will be in just a few days, so stay tuned for more Fortnite Mobile coverage!
