Google Fit redesign aims to get you up and moving with achievements

Health and fitness look to be a focus for Google this year. After a report of a new virtual “Coach” app, the Google Fit app is getting a big redesign and new features. The new features are aimed at getting people up and moving, especially if you have a sedentary lifestyle. Google’s new all-white Material Theme is present as well.

First, the new look. Gone are all the colors and cartoony artwork. In their places is the clean, white theme that we’ve seen in other updated apps. The UI comprises mainly of activity rings and a lot of bar graphs. It’s a nice look, but if you’re not a fan a Google’s bright new Material Theme, there does not appear to be a Dark Mode.

The bigger story here is the new health features and achievement system. Everyone knows it’s important to get up and move throughout the day, especially if you sit at a computer. “Move Minutes” can be earned for all of your activity. The idea is that you’ll be motivated to get up and earn more Move Minutes. Activities that get your heart pumping will reward you with “Heart Points.” You get one point for every minute of moderate activity. As always, Google Fit integrates with tons of 3rd-party apps, and you’ll earn Move Minutes and Heart Points from those activities as well. Google Fit will deliver tips to help you earn more.

Google says the update will be rolling out to Android and Wear OS this week. Do you use Google Fit? Are you more interested to use it with these changes?
