Nokia Camera update adds Google Lens, Motion Photos, & new UI

HMD Global has released a massive update for the Nokia Camera application (version 90.0.1123.20), which should run on nearly all of their devices to date. It brings many new features such as Google Lens, Motion Photos, and an all-new UI as well. It comes in at 247MB and according to Beebom, works on the Nokia 7 Plus and Nokia 8 Sirocco. The Nokia 6.1 apparently displays an incompatibility error, while the Nokia 6.1 Plus actually comes with this new camera application pre-installed.

Just like OnePlus and ASUS phones, Google Lens is now integrated into the default Nokia Camera application itself. Google Lens allows you to point the camera at something and tap it. Google’s machine learning algorithms will then attempt to identify what the object is to varying degrees of success. I personally have found it useful when out in gardens, as it can identify flowers and other plants very well. Motion Photos are a little different though. When taking a Motion Photo, it will actually make a little video of either side of the photo you’re taking. You can then export this file as a GIF or a still photo generally, meaning you can get the exact photo that you want.

If you want to get the latest version of Nokia’s camera application, you can check it out on the Google Play Store below. There may even be other changes and improvements too, though nothing else is mentioned in the app’s changelog. It was confirmed already that Nokia devices would receive the update which added Google Lens support, so it was more of a matter of when it would come out rather than if. Be sure to let us know in the comments below what you think of Nokia and HMD Global’s new camera application! Feature and UI updates are always welcome, especially when they’re an improvement upon what was available previously.
