Honor View 10 Kernel Source Code Now Available

The Honor View 10 was launched in January in Europe, India, and other regions (but not the US) as Honor’s high-end affordable flagship smartphone.  Last month, Huawei announced the Honor Open Source Program for the Honor View 10, and promised that it would soon release kernel sources as well as APIs that’d allow developers to take full advantage of the phone’s AI capabilities (the Kirin 970 has a dedicated Neural Processing Unit). In recent months, Huawei has made significant progress when it comes to releasing kernel sources on time, and the company delivered on Monday with respect to the Honor View 10.

Last week, Honor announced the first few developers that’d be receiving Honor View 10 units as part of the Honor Open Source Program. The list included renowned developers such as topjohnwu, rovo89, fransiscofranco, oldDroid, phhusson, Dees_troy, and others. At the time, the company said that the kernel source code for the Honor View 10 would be released in a week or two, once proper translations had been provided.

On Monday, a representative of Honor wrote on the XDA Forums that the company has released kernel sources for the Honor View 10. He also stated the first ten units would ship Monday or Tuesday to the developers named last week.

For folks unfamiliar with the Honor View 10, its specifications include the HiSilicon Kirin 970 system-on-chip, 6GB of RAM paired with 128GB of storage, a 6-inch Full HD+ (2160×1080) 18:9 display, dual 16MP+20MP RGB + monochrome rear cameras, a 13MP front camera, and a 3,750mAh battery. The phone ships with Emotion UI (EMUI) 8 on top of Android 8.0 Oreo, and it supports Project Treble.

It’s good to see Honor release the View 10’s source code as promised. With kernel sources out in the wild, we’re optimistic about the phone’s future.
