Asus Zenfone 3 Deluxe Android Oreo Update Now Rolling Out

Back in August of 2017, ASUS announced their plan to rollout Android Oreo to the ZenFone 4 and ZenFone 3 series. The company kicked off the Oreo rollout with the ZenFone 4, which received the update in December of last year. It was followed by the ZenFone 3 in January and the ZenFone 4 Pro earlier this month. Now, it’s time for the ZenFone 3 Deluxe to receive some Oreo love. As per an official announcement over at ASUS ZenTalk forums, the company has started rolling out a new (over-the-air) OTA update to the device.

The update brings the firmware version to V80.20.96.89 and includes all the usual Android Oreo features. That includes picture-in-picture mode, Notification Dots, Autofill password manager, support for adaptive icons, Instant Apps, and more. Alongside the Oreo goodies, the new update also improves power consumption, adds Long Screenshot feature, and brings a “more friendly” settings UI among other improvements.

Update Changelog

  • Upgrade to Android O.
  • Remove third party App: TripAdivisor, Puffin Browser and Kindle.
  • Remove Do It Later, Mini Movie, Quick Memo, PhotoCollage.
  • Move FM Radio function to quick setting.
  • After OS upgrade, in order to enter “All Apps” menu, use “swiping up” gesture to do so. Original “All Apps Icon” can be moved or changed.

For the uninitiated, the ZenFone 3 Deluxe is a flagship device from ASUS which was launched all the way back in 2016. It packs a 5.7-inch FullHD AMOLED display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 system-on-a-chip (SoC), 4GB / 6GB of RAM and a 3,000 mAh battery.

ASUS says the OTA update has already begun rolling out to the ZenFone 3 Deluxe owners. However, as always is the case with staged software rollouts, it might take some time for the update to reach all devices. In any case, if you’re sporting a ZenFone 3 Deluxe, keep an eye out for the OTA in the coming days. Alternatively, you can also check for the update manually by navigating to Settings > About > System Update.
