[Update: Rolling out now] Unlocked HTC 10 is Now Getting the Android Oreo Update

Update 1/24/18: The OTA update is rolling out now.

Google released the stable version of Android 8.0 Oreo back in August 2017, and it prompted a number of smartphone OEMs to talk about their device upgrade plans. HTC said they would update the HTC U11, U11 Life, U Ultra, and 10 within “months,” and it’s made good on its promise — at least when it comes to the HTC 10.

If you have an unlocked HTC 10, you can manually download the Android Oreo RUU file here (Via AndroidPolice). Be warned that it is about 1.8GB in size, and that it’ll wipe your phone when flashed. It’ll bring your device’s software up to version 3.16.617.2, which should begin rolling out over-the-air in the very near future. In terms of features, it’s similar to HTC’s other recent Oreo updates — you can expect picture-in-picture support, notification dots, password autofill, and more.

The amount of time it takes for smartphone OEMs to roll out the next big version of Android varies significantly, and older devices sometimes wait a year or longer for fresh updates. Thankfully, HTC’s leading the charge — while the Samsung Galaxy S7 and LG G5 are still waiting for Oreo, lucky HTC 10 owners are getting it right now.

Update: OTA Rolling Out

The RUU that was previously posted was pulled by HTC, and it appears that nobody actually received the update. Now, however, a user reports that the OTA update is actually rolling out.
