Nokia Smartphones Will Once Again Use Zeiss Camera Technology

Following its glory days with Symbian OS and Windows Mobile, the Nokia brand has recently been used by Finnish company HMD Global to produce mid-range Android smartphones and a revival of the classic Nokia 3310. This latest lineup of handsets is certainly better than what we saw a few years back with Nokia’s first take on Android with the Nokia X, but even so, the Nokia 6 (current main smartphone) leaves quite a bit to be desired.

Thankfully, HMD Global recently announced a new partnership between its Nokia smartphones and camera company Zeiss to improve photo/video performance on future devices.

Zeiss is one of the most trusted names in the photography world, and for those that have followed the Nokia brand for some time, you’ll know that this isn’t the first instance where Zeiss and Nokia have worked together to produce top-of-the-line cameras smartphones.

Nokia 6

Most all Nokia phones that ran Windows Mobile featured Zeiss camera packages, but the two most popular handsets that were made under this partnership last time around include the Lumia 1020 and 808 PureView. These smartphones featured some of the most impressive camera setups of their time, and even though we’ve already seen phenomenal camera performance from devices like the HTC U11 and Google Pixel, there’s always room for more improvement.

As per HMD Global’s CEO Arto Nummela –

“Collaborating with Zeiss is an important part of our commitment to always deliver the very best experience for our customers. Our fans want more than a great smartphone camera, they want a complete imaging experience that doesn’t just set the standards but redefines it. Our fans expect it and, together with Zeiss, we’re delivering it – co-developed imaging excellence for all.”

We’re anticipating HMD Global to release a truly high-end smartphone within the next year or two, and with this partnership with Zeiss now underway, there are a lot of expectations set on the camera package for that upcoming flagship. Whether or not Nokia and Zeiss will be able to deliver on the promises being made is something only time will tell.
