Android Security Bulletin Released for July 2017; OTAs Start Rolling out to Pixels and Supported Nexus Devices

It’s that time of the month again: Google has just released Android monthly security bulletin for the month of July along with updated security patches for recently discovered vulnerabilities. The update includes fixes for a wide range of vulnerabilities, the severity levels of which range from critical to low.

There are again two security patch strings to make it easier for OEMs to quickly patch security issues that are common across the Android platform. Security patch level string 2017-07-01 (partial) includes fixes for 43 security issues while the patch level 2017-07-05 (full) contains 96 fixes.

Google notes that the most severe of the all discovered vulnerabilities is a critical vulnerability in Media Framework that could enable remote execution of malicious code using multiple mediums. Luckily, Google has had no reports of active customer exploitation or abuse of these newly discovered vulnerabilities.

Source code patches for the discovered vulnerabilities will be released to the Android Open Source Repository in the next 48 hours.

As always, OTA updates will start rolling out to the Pixel and supported Nexus devices in the coming weeks. Meanwhile, Google has also posted factory images and full OTAs if you want to flash them manually.

You can find the links for the factory images and OTAs for the Pixels and Nexus devices below. Be sure to confirm that you are flashing the right build intended for your device only.
