Debloating your Samsung Galaxy smartphone is one of the most recommended first steps users on our forums take when setting up their new phone. Disabling pre-installed apps is usually done for performance reasons, though, as you aren’t likely to save much space at all by removing most Samsung apps. But there is one major way to save up on internal storage space if you have a bunch of Gear VR apps installed – by moving them to the SD card.

Samsung (and all Android phones since Android Marshmallow) have offered ways to move applications to the SD card for awhile now, but normally doesn’t allow you to move Gear VR apps to the SD card. However, Redditors on the /r/GalaxyS8 subreddit discovered that you can force Gear VR apps to be moved to the SD card.
The option to force apps to move to the SD card is hidden in developer options but can be enabled by anyone. No root or additional applications are needed. All you have to do is to enable the force allow apps on external option in Developer Options.
Once enabled, installed Gear VR apps can be moved to the SD card by going to the app’s storage page and tapping the “change” button. Given how large many Gear VR apps can be, this will certainly free up some space on your internal storage.
Keep in mind that moving the application to the SD card may degrade the performance of the app, which depends on how fast your SD card is. If you plan to use the Gear VR app often, it might be wise to keep it installed on the internal storage. Samsung removed the option to enable Adoptable Storage in their software (though there are ways to forcefully enable it), so it’s unclear if this method may be disabled in the future.
