FlashFire Updated with Android 6.0 and OTA Flashing Support

XDA Senior Recognized Developer Chainfire is known in the Android community for a wide variety of reasons, one of which is FlashFire. Often referred to as the spiritual successor to Mobile ODIN, FlashFire is used to flash custom ROM’s and kernels, without going through the procedure in recovery.

There’s good news for FlashFire users, the app has been updated to v0.26. The newest update brings in Android 6.0 Marshmallow compatibility as one of its biggest key features, along with the ability to flash OTAs on Marshmallow as well.

With the new update, Nexus owners on Android 6.0 Marshmallow who are using SuperSU in the default systemless mode with no modifications done to kernel, /system or /vendor can install OTA updates with the help of FlashFire. When the OTA notification arrives on your device, download the update and then open FlashFire. The app should detect the downloaded update and generates actions for the users. Opting for the “Flash” option will install the OTA on a rooted system, and root it again for you. This will save users a lot of hassle in taking OTA’s on a rooted Nexus.

The update also brings in improvements when it comes to flashing full firmwares, with the addition of support for more partitions and archive formats. There is a word of caution here though, as Chainfire strongly advises against flashing Samsung’s 6.0 Beta firmwares.

The dev also notes that, as this is massive update to an app that is Beta itself, there are bound to be plenty of bugs. We recommend that users make adequate backups and realise the risks, however minimal, when using the app.
